But WHY???

I just posted this at a message board I hang out at, but I love it so much I thought I copy and paste it here.

This is to open up dialog about the question WHY? Why do you like the the things you like, or hate the things you hate? And if you find that question irritating, why? Don't you feel it's important to know WHY it is you do the things you do, or don't the things you don't? Don't you think that it's a little like "blindly following" to just say "I like it cause I do"???

Do you think it is important to know yourself on that level? A level of understanding WHY some things are important to you an others aren't? And how that reflects on everything from as major as your personal relationships, to something as minor as the beer you drink?

I take a bit of pride in, not only making it a goal to "know thyself", but to encourage others to KNOW WHO THEY ARE. Not so they can be like me...far from it. I'm a man of faith, but I know and understand and have a basis for what I believe in. I don't criticize a man for being a man of no faith as long as he knows himself. He knows WHY. He has a complete understanding of why he embraces the teachings that he holds so dear. (but let's make no more mention of "faith or no faith"...it's just an example)

Do you think it is important to know and understand your feelings on any given subject? If so, why? If not, why?
